Established in 1890, Kay Brothers is the oldest family-owned winery in McLaren Vale. Visitors can enjoy a guided tasting in our heritage-listed cellar door while taking in panoramic views across our vineyards to the Mount Lofty Ranges.

As a working winery still located on its original site, Kay Brothers offers a uniquely authentic McLaren Vale experience. Our knowledgeable team will guide you through the wines, share the history of the property and explain what makes this region so special. Kay Brothers is located in McLaren Vale, approximately 45 minutes south of Adelaide. Our cellar door sits on the original winery property established by the Kay family in 1890 and remains a working winery today.

Weekdays: 10am to 5pm. Weekends and public holidays: 11am to 5pm. We close on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

We recommend checking our opening hours before visiting, particularly on public holidays and during the festive season.

Bookings are recommended but not always essential.

Groups of up to 8 guests are welcome to walk in, subject to availability. However, booking ahead is the best way to ensure we can accommodate you, particularly on weekends and during busy periods.

Groups of 9 or more must book in advance.

Most guests spend between 45 and 60 minutes enjoying a tasting. Many visitors choose to stay a little longer to enjoy the vineyard views, explore our heritage cellar door and browse the wine range.

Our tasting experiences are guided by our Cellar Door team and provide an introduction to the wines, vineyards and history of Kay Brothers. Our team will tailor the tasting to your interests.

You’ll taste a selection of wines while learning about our estate vineyards, traditional winemaking practices and the story of a family-owned winery that has been part of McLaren Vale for more than 135 years.

Yes. We offer a range of tastings starting from $20 per person.

We offer a selection of cheese and regional produce platters to enjoy with your tasting.

We do not operate a restaurant or offer a full lunch menu. If you’re looking for lunch in McLaren Vale, there are a number of excellent cafés and restaurants nearby, and our team is always happy to provide recommendations.

Yes. You’re welcome to enjoy a picnic on our lawn while taking in the vineyard views.

To help keep tables available for cellar door guests enjoying tastings and platters, picnics are not permitted within the cellar door seating areas.

If you plan to picnic, we recommend bringing a picnic rug or portable chairs. Please use acrylic or non-glass drinkware. Acrylic picnic glasses are available to purchase from the cellar door.

If you’re planning a larger picnic gathering, please contact us before your visit.

We do not currently offer scheduled winery tours. However, we may be able to arrange a behind-the-scenes winery experience on request, subject to availability.

Yes. Groups of up to 8 guests are welcome for standard tastings in the Cellar Door.

Groups of 9 to 16 guests can be accommodated in our outdoor tasting area beneath the verandah, which includes all-weather blinds and heaters. We may not always be able to move larger groups inside during periods of severe weather.

For groups of more than 16 guests, please contact us directly at info@kaybrothers.com.au. We can offer a tasting experience in our heritage-listed cask room within the working winery, subject to availability. These experiences include a dedicated host and are tailored to the size and interests of the group.

Yes. We offer accessible parking, accessible toilet facilities and wheelchair access to the cellar door, deck and verandah areas.

If you have any specific accessibility requirements, please contact us prior to your visit and we’ll be happy to assist.

Yes. Families are very welcome. We have a lawn area where children can play, colouring-in activities, baby change facilities and a selection of juice and soft drinks.

Yes. Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome in our outdoor areas.
